Why shouldn't we take antibiotics at the slightest sign of a cold?

Antibiotics should only be taken as prescribed by a doctor, otherwise there is a high probability that dangerous strains of bacteria will develop resistance to them.

As a result, lots of trivial illnesses are increasingly hard to cure, since bacteria get "used" to the medication and no longer respond to it.
